The Mission

Honoring 1SG (R) Terry Raynor — and the Mission of Heroes I Know

The veteran community lost a good man with the passing of First Sergeant (Retired) Terry Raynor. Terry was one of those leaders who left a mark on everyone he served with. He was the kind of soldier who believed in doing things the right way, taking care of his people, and carrying himself with the quiet strength that defines the best of the American Army.

For many of us, Terry wasn’t just a fellow veteran — he was a brother.

In honor of Terry’s life and legacy, his sister has asked that anyone wishing to make a donation in his name consider supporting Marshall in the Middle — Heroes I Know.

The mission of Heroes I Know is simple, but deeply important.

We are trying to tell the stories of the men and women who served — before time steals those stories from us.

Every veteran carries experiences that most Americans will never see. Leadership under pressure. Brotherhood forged in difficult places. Moments of courage, humor, heartbreak, and sacrifice. These stories are part of our nation’s living history, but too often they disappear quietly when a veteran grows older, becomes ill, or passes away.

Once those voices are gone, the stories are gone with them.

That’s why we started Heroes I Know on the Marshall in the Middle channel.

We sit down with soldiers, leaders, and veterans from every walk of life and simply give them the space to talk. No script. No agenda. Just honest conversation between people who understand what it meant to serve.

Our goal is to capture these memories while we still can — to preserve them for families, for fellow veterans, and for future generations who deserve to understand the people who carried the weight of our nation’s defense.

Donations made in Terry Raynor’s name will go directly toward continuing that mission — helping us record, preserve, and share the stories of America’s veterans.

If you knew Terry, then you know he believed in leadership, loyalty, and taking care of your people. Supporting Heroes I Know helps us continue honoring men like him by ensuring their stories — and the stories of others like them — are never forgotten.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone who has donated or supported the mission.

And most importantly:

Thank you, Terry.

Your story matters. Your service mattered. And you will not be forgotten.
